If 50 students out of 200 joined an activity, 50 divided by 200 equals 0.25. Multiply by 100 to get 25%. The whole value cannot be zero because division by zero is undefined.
What Is X Percent of Y?
To calculate 25% of 400, convert 25% to 0.25 and multiply by 400. The result is 100. This formula is useful for discounts, commissions, tips, tax, grades, and allocation calculations.
Percentage Increase Calculator
A percentage increase calculator measures growth relative to the original value. Subtract the original number from the new number, divide the change by the original number, and multiply by 100.
If a value grows from 80 to 100, the increase is 20. Dividing 20 by 80 gives 0.25, so the increase is 25%. The original value is the denominator. Dividing by the new value would answer a different question.
Growth Percentage Calculator
Growth percentage uses the same formula as percentage change. Positive growth appears as an increase, while a negative result indicates a decrease. For example, growth from 1,000 to 1,150 is 15%. A decline from 1,000 to 850 is a 15% decrease.

Average Percentage Calculator
The Average, Win & Weight Loss tab accepts a list such as 75, 82, 91, and 88. It adds the percentages and divides by the number of entries. Those four percentages have an arithmetic mean of 84%.

To calculate a test percentage, enter total possible points as the whole and points earned as the part. A score of 42 out of 50 is 84% because 42 ÷ 50 × 100 = 84. A percentage alone does not determine the letter grade unless the grading scale is known.

Win Percentage Calculator and Winning Percentage
Winning percentage compares wins with total games or events played:
A team with 18 wins in 25 games has a 72% win percentage. Total games should include all completed games. If a sport treats ties separately, the governing rules may use a different formula, such as counting a tie as half a win. This calculator uses wins divided by total games and does not apply league-specific standings rules.[2]
Weight Loss Percentage Calculator
Weight-loss percentage expresses the change relative to starting weight. Enter starting and current weights in the same unit. Pounds and kilograms produce the same percentage as long as both fields use the same unit.
A change from 200 to 180 is a 10% loss. If current weight is higher than starting weight, the result is displayed as a gain. This is arithmetic only and does not assess health, body composition, or an appropriate target.
Body Fat Percentage Calculator and Fat Percentage Searches
Body fat percentage is not the same as weight-loss percentage or BMI. Estimating body fat requires measurements and a separate validated method, such as a circumference-based equation, skinfold assessment, or body-composition device. For that reason, this general percentage calculator does not label ordinary percentage arithmetic as a body fat percentage calculator.[3]

The Tax Percentage Calculator multiplies the pre-tax price by the entered tax rate, then adds the tax amount to the subtotal.
Total After Tax = Price Before Tax + Tax Amount
For a $100 item at 8.25%, tax is $8.25 and the total is $108.25. Enter the rate shown by the relevant authority or receipt. The tool does not look up current state, city, product, or service tax rules. State and local tax rates and tax bases can vary by jurisdiction.[4]
Percentage Difference vs. Percentage Change
Percentage change compares a new value against a known original value. Percentage difference compares two values when neither is treated as the original. Percentage difference therefore divides the absolute difference by the average of the two values.[5]
Use percentage change for prices over time, salary increases, or growth. Use percentage difference for two experimental measurements, estimates, or values being compared symmetrically.
Markup Percentage and Profit Margin
Markup and margin are often confused. Markup expresses profit relative to cost, while margin expresses profit relative to selling price.
Margin % = Profit ÷ Selling Price × 100
